Robot Maze is a PowerPoint activity that show students the planning process involved in writing an algorithm. The slides outline the steps used when writing an algorithm, before testing the algorithm one command at a time in order to complete the given task. For the purposes of this lesson, the steps involved in writing an algorithm are:
- Identify the aims of the program
- Plan your solution
- Define your instructions (functions/procedures)
- Write your program
- Execute/test your program
A good extension activity is to ask the students what would happen if you changed one of the commands in the program and explain that by getting one command in the program incorrect, the entire program wouldn’t work.
